Crowd vs Disciple?

And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick.  Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.

John 6:2-3

Jesus attracted a lot of crowds. However, he only had a few disciples. The crowds were often amazed at his teaching and flocked to him for healing. He loved these people and had a tremendous amount of compassion for them, always putting their needs above his own. But, there was a difference between being part of the crowd that admired Jesus and being a disciple that followed Jesus.

A disciple, however, has a far different attitude. To follow Jesus as a disciple is to not just be interested in what he can do for you, but to be willing to give your self to him and his kingdom’s cause.

Do you see yourself as a member of the crowd (only looking for what Jesus can do for you) or as a disciple (giving your everything to Jesus and his purposes)?
